we've grown a little since the new squad took over the group a month ago. I'm very glad it's going so well so far, I hope you don't wait too long to see your artwork placed in the group folders and we are open for discussion if anyone has any request, remark or a suggestion. A new folder for high-quality tutorials is going to be opened very soon and I hope you'd use it whether you are an artist who is willing to share his/her own tutorials, a student who would use the folder to improve his/her drawing skills or a person who happened to stumble over a very good tutorial and cared enough to share it with us.Let's skip to the new contest, shall we?
I'm aware that the theme might be interesting for some of you, some of you would consider it boring and snoring and whatnot, but I think it has a potential. Basically, each participant is going to choose a part of Greek mythology - a hero, famous lovers, one glorious event, anything included in Greek ancient mythology and this participant would study his/her chosen topic for a while before he/she decides what to draw. The question you should ask yourself at the end of your self-study is "What intrigued me that much, that I want to show it to all of you through my drawing?"
An example: Jane has read a book about Orpheus a long time ago, but she remembers him, so she reads about him again, sheds some tears at the exact moment when Orpheus is wailing above Eurydice's dead body. So she decides to show us - in her own way, in her own style - this particular scene and she even writes for us a short note under her artwork describing what's going on on the drawing and why she chose that exact moment.
The participants are encouraged to comment on this blog entry to let us know what theme they choose, so nobody else would have the same topic. In the section "About Us" there shall be placed a list of potential characters or topics you might want to use and, of course, you can come up with anything else related to the ancient Greek mythology. Summary:
The moment you decide to participate, you check the list in the above mentioned section, you choose your theme and you comment on this blog entry
, confirming your intention to participate and letting us know what topic you want. Your name then shall be added into the list to let everybody know which topic has been taken by you. A little, yet crucial remark - you must be a proud member of this group to enter the contest and your drawing should be new and shiny - not just something you've pulled out of a bottom drawer. Allowed media: graphite, charcoal, all group rules are applied. Prizes are going to be rather traditional:
Hundreds of points,
Free drawings from the graphite masters,
Shocking horde of mangy llamas from every willing member who'd care enough to reward the winners.
The amount of points depends on how much we would be able to raise from ourselves. I hereby donate a tremendous amount of 24 points (all I have) to this contest and I hope you would consider donating as well. Think about it this way - if each member donates a single point, the rewards for the winners would be grandiose indeed. So, please, think about it and channel any paroxysms of generosity to this LadyDragonka.deviantart.com/?g…
since I'm not able to establish a donation pool at this moment.DEADLINE: NOVEMBER 7
Also, direct any questions at me and I would like to emphasize that the contest folder has been established. In the meantime, I'm going to collect the points, crawl in front of the graphite masters and shoot some llamas.
Friends, please donate, participate if you want to, choose a theme and most importantly - keep drawing
Due to several drawings being misplaced into the contest folder, the folder is hereby being closed again. To submit a contest drawing, please comment on this journal and add a link to your submission. Your artwork shall be added manually by the admins.
My dear members and contest participants, I'm delighted to announce we have the first MASTER among us, willing to do a drawing for the contest winner.
Marcello alias SILENTJUSTICE
Many thanks to the point donors! If only there were more artists like you.
